Director of Human Resources

Job Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is a key leadership role with the overarching responsibility of defining and executing the HR strategy in alignment with our organization's mission and goals. As the sole member and leader of the HR department, you will ensure the development of a scalable HR infrastructure that supports our growth across multiple states, including the startup phase and beyond.This role is central to fostering a dynamic and inclusive workplace, managing the entire HR spectrum from talent acquisition and development to compensation, benefits, payroll and compliance. Your mission encompasses not only driving organizational effectiveness but also implementing cutting-edge software solutions to streamline HR operations, ensuring all processes are efficient and fully digital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the HR department, ensuring scalability and readiness for multi-state expansion, with a keen focus on creating a flexible infrastructure that can grow with the company.
  • Manage all aspects of people management.
  • Cultivate a high-performance company culture that prioritizes continuous improvement and employee well-being, while owning and enhancing Net Promoter Scores (NPS) through innovative strategies aimed at boosting overall team happiness and satisfaction.
  • Strategically develop and implement comprehensive HR policies and practices that support the organization's objectives and promote an engaging and inclusive work culture while maintaining compliance with employment and labor laws and city policies.
  • Lead talent management efforts, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, development and termimination, ensuring we attract and retain top talent while fostering career growth and succession planning.
  • Design, administer, and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs, adapting them as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the workforce and the organization.
  • Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely disbursement of employee compensation.
  • Implement and manage HR software systems to enhance efficiency, housing all employee data and HR processes electronically for easy access and management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, updating policies and practices as necessary to maintain compliance as we expand into new geographies.
  • Lead employee relations efforts, providing a mediating presence in conflict resolution and maintaining a healthy, respectful workplace environment.
  • Advise and collaborate with the executive team on strategic HR decisions, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the company.
  • Engage with community and professional associations to raise the company's profile and attract top talent.
  • Implement rigorous risk management practices to safeguard the business against potential lawsuits.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with focus in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 5 or more years of experience with employee relations, conducting investigations, and managing comprehensive HR functions, ideally within a rapidly growing startup environment.
  • SHRM-CP certification or higher
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing HR departments, including the ability to scale operations and adapt to multi-state expansions.
  • Proven track record in implementing and managing HR technologies and systems for streamlined, efficient operations.
  • Deep knowledge of HR principles and practices, along with a strong understanding of employment laws and regulations across multiple states.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships and engaging with employees at all levels.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in building and mentoring teams, setting strategic directions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Analytical and strategic thinker, adept at using data to inform decisions and drive HR initiatives forward.
